Jamf 300 made the list
A new ranking of 16 tech certifications for 2027 recently put Jamf 300 alongside AWS, CISSP and Kubernetes, making it the only Apple certification on the list. The reason for its place is the interesting part: the roles that ask for it are concentrated in Apple-heavy organisations, and those roles have few qualified applicants.
If you run a Mac fleet, that will sound familiar. Jamf skills are exactly what you need, and exactly what’s hard to find. The real question isn’t whether you need that expertise. It’s whether you need to employ it, or just have it on hand.
The real cost of one Jamf admin
Hiring a Jamf admin is about more than budget. You’re depending on one person’s time and knowledge, and that dependency is easy to overlook until something goes wrong.
- Training overhead. Jamf 300 needs a current Jamf 200 certification first, then four full days in class and a proctored exam. The badge lasts three years, so the cycle comes round again.
- Holiday cover. Everyone in the UK is entitled to at least 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year. Add sickness and training days, and that’s well over a month a year when your Mac fleet has no expert.
- They get poached. Jamf skills are scarce, so good people get approached. When yours hands in their notice, recruiting and training a replacement usually takes far longer than the notice period.
- The knowledge leaves with them. How your enrolment, policies and scripts were built often lives in one person’s head. Lose the person and you lose that too.
- One pair of eyes. A single admin only ever sees your environment. The problems they’ve never met before are the ones that take longest to fix.
None of this is a criticism of the people. It’s simply the risk of relying on one person with those Jamf skills. That risk is sharper with Apple, where the skills are niche and far harder to cover than the rest of IT.
The alternative? A partner who already has it
You don’t need to own Jamf expertise to have it. A specialist partner gives you certified Jamf engineers on demand, without the hiring, the training cycle or the single point of failure.
Dare Technology is an employee-owned Apple IT consultancy and a Jamf Elite Partner. We’ve configured, secured and supported more than 250 Apple fleets over 12 years. That breadth is what you’re really getting. A problem that would stall your in-house admin for a week is often one we’ve already solved somewhere else.
It also changes who you’re relying on. You get a team that knows your environment, not a single person whose holiday leaves the fleet unattended. And because we build to Jamf’s standards, what we set up is documented and maintainable, so you’re never locked into one person’s memory.
Start small, scale when you need to
You don’t have to commit to a full outsourced function to get Jamf expertise into your business. Pick the level that fits where you are now.
Blocks of consultancy hours, from 10 hours. Certified Jamf engineers whenever you need them, with hours you can use across support, escalations or project work such as a policy review, an enrolment rebuild or a Platform SSO rollout. This suits you if you have an in-house admin who needs a specialist alongside them now and then.
Full support. Day-to-day help for your team from the people who know your environment. Think of us as an extension of your support team, giving you Apple expertise without a dedicated hire.
Consultancy as a service. An ongoing Apple and Jamf specialist function for your business, covering planning, change and support together. This suits you if your Mac fleet is critical and you want senior expertise on tap to guide you through each change Apple and Jamf make.
If you’re not sure where to start, start with a block of hours. It’s the lowest-risk way to see how we work, and it often shows what needs fixing before anyone signs up to anything bigger.
Jamf expertise, without the job advert
Jamf 300 earning a place on a cross-industry list is good news for anyone who manages Macs. It confirms what Apple-heavy organisations already know: the skills matter, and they’re scarce.
If you’re weighing up a hire, ask whether you need to own that expertise or just have reliable access to it. If it’s the second, talk to us. Tell us about your fleet and we’ll suggest the smallest engagement that would make a difference.
